WHAT IS OSTEOPOROSIS?

One in every three women and one in every five males over the age of 50 will experience an osteoporosis fracture. Osteoporosis weakens and weakens bones, causing them to break easily — even after a little fall, a bump, a sneeze, or a quick movement. Osteoporosis-related fractures can be life-threatening and are a major source of pain and long-term disability.

Fractures caused by osteoporosis have a devastating effect on millions of people around the world, costing society and healthcare systems tremendous sums of money. Despite great medical improvements, only a small percentage of men and women receive treatment for fractures.

Only 20% of patients with osteoporotic fractures are recognised or treated for the underlying illness of osteoporosis.

Awareness is one of the most powerful tools in the battle against osteoporosis. By educating ourselves about this disease, we can more effectively prevent it.
